Happy Mummy, Happy Family: How I Reduced My Stress

Life can be busy. Crazy. Stressful. You think you've finally got it all done and something else pops up. There's the kids, hubby, work, the house, etc, etc. You know your list of who's who and to- dos. We live in a fast- paced world where it's getting harder to unplug, tune out, and turn off. And I'll be the first to admit it definitely takes it's toll. There's a reason for the phrase happy wife, happy life. And we need to remember to take care of ourselves. And don't give me that excuse that you don't have time. I know there's so much to do, but something's gotta give, or you may find yourself suffering for it.

Heart disease is the number one killer of women. Not surprising when you consider that stress is a contributor to this and other serious health concerns. Ladies, we need to take care of ourselves!

That's why this past weekend I stopped. I blocked out an hour just for me. It's hard to do when you know there's stuff to do, but I actually took my own advice (you've got to practice what you preach!) and focused inward. With the help of my friend Lisa from Noah's Ark Hypnotherapy I was able to focus on what's been causing me stress and how to reduce the effects. Thanks to Lisa I was able to achieve a sense of calm that has continued since our session on Saturday.

I know that hypnotherapy's not for everyone. And I'll admit it's taken me a few years to move from curious to actually giving it a try. Like many things in life, you have to be ready to try something new. With my crazy busy schedule and infinite to- do list, I have recognized that I need to make time to focus on my health- and this includes my mental health.

I appreciated Lisa taking the time to come to me (we fit it in during Ari's nap time), explain everything, and help me be comfortable with the process of hypnotherapy. I filled out some general health information and we discussed different elements that can affect our overall health. Once we had gone over everything, it was time to proceed with the session. Lisa explained that hypnosis is a natural state of mind where we achieve a deep relaxation and can turn focus from our conscious to our subconscious.

The major point I learned is that for hypnotherapy to be effective, you have to be receptive to it. If you resist the process necessary to help you relax and focus subconsciously, you won't feel the benefits. And let me tell you, the benefits are worth giving it a shot. This is one relaxed Momma.
